The VenuesNow conference kicks off this week, and we’re told a big announcement could open the invitation-only event organized by Oak View Group’s Tim Leiweke and Ray Waddell. Mega-mogul Irving Azoff will reportedly make the announcement with Leiweke, we’re hearing, this Wednesday. Amplify’s Dave Brooks will be there, so we’ll let you know the news as soon as we find out.
VenuesNow isn’t the only big conference happening this week — the long-running TicketSummit featuring some of the biggest names and companies in ticket resell begins Wednesday in Las Vegas. This year’s event takes on special relevance as it follows the ongoing fallout for DTI regarding the Joe Meli scandal. Meli, a former board member of DTI, was arrested earlier this year and charged with operating an elaborate Ponzi scheme. DTI is a co-sponsor of the TicketSummit and CEO Curtis Cheng is a speaker at this year’s conference. Other speakers include TicketNetwork CEO and Co-Founder Don Vaccaro, AXS’ Bryan Perez, Ticketmaster’s David Marcus and WME’s Michelle Bernstein. Learn more about the conference here. Is the star power of this year’s conference a sign that the secondary ticketing industry is finally coming out out of the shadows? We’ll let you decide.
