We’ve been so busy here working behind the scenes on stories for both Amplify and Billboard about the attacks in Las Vegas that we have not really had a moment to pay proper tribute to one of the greatest performers and singer-songwriters of all time, the indelible Tom Petty.
Petty’s music was incredibly important to me growing up — not only did he bridge the musical gap between my generation and my parent’s generation, but his music transcended the musical phases of mine and my friend’s lives and was always present and approachable.
If you have a moment this week, read this great story about the exhausting recording of “Refugee,” which took over 100 takes to get right. And if you need a little musical pick me up, Spotify has a created a great playlist of Petty’s catalog.
