The first thing you read each issue is the last thing I write. I typically put off composing this opening piece until right before we publish. After a week of brutal news, it’s really hard to find any more words to say.
The attack in Las Vegas has weighed very heavy on all of our hearts. The more we try to make sense of this terrible tragedy, the more it seems to defy understanding. As I was flying into Las Vegas from Long Beach Monday morning, a flight attendant knew that several families on the flight were making the journey for those killed or injured in the attack. He asked us to sit while these families deboarded the plane first. As he finished his announcement, he felt compelled to say something comforting and told us “we really need to work harder to love one another.” That’s all he had in him, and that’s all we have left in us this sad and somber Friday. Have a good weekend everyone, and try to get some rest.
