Joe Meli will serve out his six-and-a-half year prison sentence at Lewisburg Camp in Pennsylvania, a minimum security prison operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
“Lewisburg Camp has dormitory housing. The prisoners are classed as low-level risk,” according to PrisonWire.com. “Minimum security and BOP Camp’s generally are as close as you can get to not feeling like the inmate is incarcerated. To assist inmates with their rehabilitation, Lewisburg U.S. Penitentiary has many work programs which enable inmates to work outside the camp in the local community.”
Meli was sentenced Tuesday for his involvement in a Ponzi scheme and is accused of stealing more than $100 million from investors. He will surrender to the U.S. Marshal Service on June 28, 2018 and has been ordered to pay his victims $104 million in restitution.
