Country superstar Eric Church this week debuted a song dedicated to the victims of Sunday’s mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. Church, who headlined the festival’s first day on Sept. 29, premiered “Why Not Me” at the Grand Ole Opry Wednesday night. “That night, something broke in me when that happened,” he told Billboard. “And the only way I’ve ever fixed anything that’s been broken in me is with music.” On Sunday, a gunman opened fire onto the crowd of concertgoers from his suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, killing 58 people and injuring nearly 500 others. Church told Billboard that he didn’t want to play at the Grand Ole Opry, until he watched an television news interview with a widow of one of his fans whose husband was killed protecting her.
