Touted as ‘Record Store Day for Venues,’ Independent Venue Week is headed to the U.S. after five years in the U.K. Between July 9-15, the event will be a celebration of, a display of gratitude for, and a series of shows in independently-owned and -run music venues. Independent Venue Week founder Sybil Bell said in a release “Bands still need to play and tour small venues here in order to get a foothold.” Bell added “those working behind the scene also need to start small. Local communities too need somewhere on their doorsteps that knows how to put live music on.” Bell said she has been speaking with U.S. cities for three years and those participating, along with musical acts, and events will be named soon.
