As part of a revival of the historic Paramount Theatre in Brooklyn, building owner LIU Brooklyn and Paramount Events Center (PEC) have signed a long-term lease agreement for what will be officially known as the LIU Brooklyn Paramount Theatre. Last year, LIU announced renovations to the theatre with hopes to feature emerging talent in music, comedy, boxing, as well as serve as a space for LIU events at the future building. The theatre was built in 1928 by Paramount Pictures and featured legendary musical acts in its heyday including Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Bing Crosby and Chuck Berry. Construction for the new theatre is set to begin in 2017, the grand opening for 2019.
