Hackers found their way into Selena Gomez’s Instagram account – the singer has the largest in the world – and posted nude photos of former boyfriend Justin Bieber.
Her account was breached on Monday, Digital Music News reports. The hack only lasted 10 to 15 minutes, but not before the compromising pictures were posted. The photos of Bieber were taken during a vacation to Bora Bora. The couple called it quits in 2014.
Gomez’s Instagram account was suspended. The photos were taken down and it was re-opened.

NME reports that Instagram has since confirmed an API bug was behind the prank. The bug revealed to hackers the email addresses and phone numbers of famous Instagram users, including Gomez.”No passwords were exposed,” Instagram reps said in a statement. “We fixed the bug swiftly and are running a thorough investigation.” Gomez’s camp had not released a statement as of Wednesday morning.
The hack has the music industry a little rattled. DMN recently published a story on a number of independent artists whose Facebook accounts had been hacked. The social media company, though, only makes an effort to help big stars (and even that’s a stretch) whose accounts are compromised. Earlier this year, DMN reports, Gomez told Vogue:
“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out. It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see. Like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like s–t when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”Even so, Gomez earned an estimated $550,000 for one sponsored Instagram post for Coca-Cola, DMN writes. She has continued to rake in millions from branding deals.
