Oak View Group has announced several major changes at Venues Today one year after hiring Ray Waddell to helm the media and conferences division of the company owned by Tim Leiweke and Irving Azoff.
Oak View Group has hired Don Muret from Sports Business Journal, a 15-year veteran at SBJ, and also unveiled plans to end publication of Venues Today with December being its final issue. Venues Today will be replaced by VenuesNow, which will launch some time next year.
The decision means the closure of Venues Today’s Huntington Beach office and layoffs for most of the staff, although company founder Linda Deckard and writer Brad Weissenberg will stay on with OVG. Deckard has a multi-year contract with OVG following the sale of her company in 2016.
Earlier this week, Amplify reported that Pollstar News Editor Joe Reinartz had resigned after 20 years at Pollstar. Muret will serve as senior editor of Facilities for VenuesNow and write for Pollstar. He’ll be joined by Rob Knapp, former managing editor at Sports Business Journal.
“We’re beyond excited about the next chapter for the leading facilities business trade in VenuesNow, and as we continue to offer the absolute best in editorial coverage and industry data for professionals working in the venue industry,” said OVG CEO Tim Leiweke in a release. “This powerful editorial team behind a sharp, re-focused media platform will build on the legacy platform and provide the sort of in-depth, insightful coverage that befits this dynamic business.”
