AEG TRIPLES ARENA REVENUE IN ONE YEAR
AEG tripled the projected income for the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona in its first year with the venue. The 14 year-old arena was expected to bring the city $500,000, but AEG increased the number of events outside of hockey games and gave back $1,621,508, according to AEG Facilities Gila River General Manager Dale Adams. “This is the first good news about our arena in many years and I am impressed with the return on investment and convinced it will grow over time and feels good for a change,” Yucca District Councilmember Joyce Clark told the Glendale Star.
“LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO” BREAKS SPOTIFY RECORDS
Tay Tay did it again. Taylor Swift crushed Spotify day-one records with “Look What You Made Me Do,” which was released at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Music Business Worldwide reports. The pop star’s new song had pulled in 7.91 million streams by Friday, surpassing the 6.87m streams that had previously been secured in 24 hours by Ed Sheeran when he released “Shape Of You.” The figures only include streams eligible for Spotify’s charts, since the service puts a cap on the number of plays a person can log within a 24-hour period.
WARNING OF TERRORIST PLOT CANCELS DUTCH CONCERT
American band Allah-Las was scheduled to perform last Wednesday (Aug. 23) at concert venue Maassilo in Rotterdam, Netherlands when Spanish police warned Dutch authorities of a potential terrorist threat. According to Dutch officials, a man with a van full of gas bottles near the venue was arrested. A second man who was suspected of conspiring to help carry out the attack was arrested at his home in The Netherlands. Dutch authorities say there was no connection between the attacks last week in Barcelona, and they believe the threat is gone.
