SIMON SKJODT ASSEMBLY HALL JOINS VENUE COALITION
Indiana University’s Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall has become part of Venue Coalition after renovations and a stellar reopening. The hall’s facelift included a new atrium, a new scoreboard, additional restrooms and the opening of the Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media and Technology. “Since its opening in 1971, not only has this venerable arena been home to Big Ten basketball, but also to the best touring artists, from the Rolling Stones and Elvis to Neil Diamond and the Red Hot Chili Peppers,” Doug Booher, CFE, executive director of university events said in a press release. “With the incredible renovation of IU’s Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall now complete, we are proud to be partnering with Venue Coalition to reestablish a tradition of the best of touring entertainment in one of America’s most iconic arenas.”
PHILLY OPERA HOUSE TO REOPEN AS LIVE NATION VENUE
The Met Opera House, originally built in 1908 by Oscar Hammerstein, is being redeveloped by Live Nation. The block-long, 3,500-cap venue is set to reopen in September 2018. Geoff Gordon, regional president of Live Nation, told Billboard the architect in charge of renovations “has been very careful that the building stayed true to its original form.” The renovations are expected to cost $45 million and will fit nicely into Live Nation’s existing portfolio of Philadelphia venues, including the the 2,400-capacity Fillmore and the 3,000-capacity Tower Theater.
AEG FACILITES TO MANAGE FRIENDS ARENA IN SWEDEN
AEG Facilities and Arenabolaget in Solna AB announced today that AEG will manage the 75,000-seat Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Friends, the region’s largest multi-purpose arena, is home to the Swedish National Soccer team and the AIK Soccer Club. It also and hosts concerts, family shows and other sporting and special events. As part of the multi-year agreement, AEG Facilities will provide full management services to the arena, including event programming, vendor venue services, advertising and marketing, and oversee the arena’s event-day operations.
